What's the hold-up with Giants' pursuit of Aaron Rodgers?

Jets officially released the 41-year-old QB on Wednesday

While the Giants, along with plenty of football fans, are patiently waiting to see if Aaron Rodgers wants to join Big Blue, it appears the veteran quarterback is still waiting to hear back from another team that's atop his wish list.

The delayed free agency decision from Rodgers stems from mutual interest with the Minnesota Vikings, according to The Athletic's Dianna Russini, and the 41-year-old signal-caller has granted the team time to decide what it wants to do.

Since the Vikings have yet to reach a conclusion, the Giants and other suitors remain twiddling their thumbs.

It's no secret that Rodgers, despite his age, is the most coveted quarterback on the open market. Earlier this week, The Athletic reported that New York has extended the most lucrative offer to the four-time MVP winner, although it's unclear whether Rodgers is prioritizing money over joining a playoff contender.

Rodgers is experiencing free agency for the first time in his career, as the Jets officially released him on Wednesday as a designated post-June 1 cut to reduce their cap hit. His tenure in green failed to meet internal and external expectations, due to injury and poor team play. But in 18 total games with the Jets, Rodgers threw for 3,897 yards with 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. There seems to be gas left in his tank.

The Giants are also keeping a close eye on the Pittsburgh Steelers, who've been the offseason betting favorites to acquire Rodgers' services. By making a serious push for him, the Steelers would then be shutting the door on a 2025 campaign with veteran Russell Wilson, who's conveniently visiting the Giants on Friday.

The Giants also hosted Joe Flacco for a visit on Thursday.
