We all know the life of a fantasy football commissioner is one of the most glamorous and high-paying gigs one can get. That's why every year when you ask "Who wants to be commish this year?", a flurry of hands immediately shoot up. What? This doesn't happen in your league? Perhaps it's just me then.
The truth is that the commissioner job is a thankless one. Trying to accommodate everyone's schedules while organizing the draft is a juggling exercise. Playing referee on silly disputes means we're bound to upset someone. When it's time to collect league fees, others look upon us like we're the IRS. I've never quite understood that last one. When I ask someone for their league fee, why do they feel the need to contort their face into a weird look as if the question came out of left field? Seriously...
I ran across a cool, new tool that I wanted to share with other commissioners. It's called Crowdtilt, and while it isn't strictly for fantasy sports, I think it serves the purpose quite nicely. I like to think of it as my fantasy accountant. There are other similar tools out there, but I've found Crowdtilt to be the easiest one to use. I like that I can easily keep track of who has paid and who hasn't. Even better - everyone else can see it too. It's so much easier to heap on the public scorn when everyone knows who hasn't paid. Peer pressure can be a commissioner's best friend.
I then touched base with the folks at Crowdtilt and they offered a special promotion for FFN members. Every person who uses Crowdtilt to collect their league dues will be entered into a drawing for $100. Just use the promo code: ffnerd2012
Just like my commissioner jobs, I'm not getting paid for this. I don't make anything on this. I just thought it was a pretty cool way to handle fee collections and deserved to be put into the commish toolbox. People can go online and use their computer or phone to pay - no more checks or cash.
Let me know if you find it useful.
