5 Safe Fantasy Football Picks

Ezekiel Elliott, RB - DAL
We anticipate the workload for Elliott to be very significant this year. The Cowboys have been getting him involved in the passing game during camp and have indicated that this trend should continue into the season. Given the lack of depth at the WR position and absolutely no threat anywhere on the RB depth chart in Dallas, Elliott has no shortage of work ahead of him. He will also run behind one of the best offensive lines in the NFL. We have him projected for 45 catches, 1,922 rushing/receiving yards, and 14 trips to the end zone. Elliott has not missed a game for injury reasons making him one of the safest plays in fantasy football.
Larry Fitzgerald, WR - ARI
Pay no attention to Fitzgerald's age. He is the equivalent of a fine wine - he just keeps getting better. Fitz is a safe pick - consistent and durable. He has played every game in 9 of the past 10 seasons and has caught at leat 100 passes for the 3rd-straight year in 2017. Given the cast of receivers around him, nobody comes close to his talent so he should be in line for another (and perhaps his last) year of healthy targets.
Matthew Stafford, QB - DET
If you opt to wait on a QB this year, look for Matt Stafford somewhere around the 8th/9th round in 12-team leagues. He's ranked inside the Top 10 on FFN and has consistently finished the year as a Top 10 QB in all but one of his seven seasons. With a solid trio of receivers in Marvin Jones, Golden Tate, and Kenny Golladay, he has plenty of options through the air. He's also an ironman having played every game since 2010.
Demaryius Thomas, WR - DEN
Don't let his down year in 2017 sour you on drafting Thomas this year. A big part of that was the rotating QB situation in Denver (Trevor Siemian, Brock Osweiler and Paxton Lynch). The Broncos upgraded their QB situation a bit by signing Case Keenum. Thomas was the most efficient receiver on the team. He has seen at least 140 targets in 6 straight seasons and has played in every single one of those games. He's got the durability and volume that fantasy owners want making him a fantastic WR2 on your roster.
Drew Brees, QB - NO
There's ample reason to expect Alvin Kamara to see some regression this year. His 2017 numbers are going to be difficult to replicate. With a defense that ranks neatly in the middle of the pack, the Saints will have to throw and who better than one of the most consistent quarterbacks in the game? Brees led the NFL with a 72% completion rate and should bounce back in terms of pass attempts. He's lining up behind the 4th-ranked offensive line who should help keep him upright. Brees has been the 6th QB taken off the draft board. He's as safe a pick as they come.
