For a team that could really use some good news, the injury to Donnie Avery was not what they needed. The St Louis Rams have announced that Avery injured his left foot during a team scrimmage this past Friday night. While he did not fracture it, the injury appears to be bigger than they had originally thought.
The team expects him to be out 4-6 weeks.
Avery is currently ranked #35 among WR's on FantasyFootballNerd.com. The next ranked wide receiver from St Louis is Ronald Curry at #86 and Keenan Burton at #98. This does not bode well for FFN's 26th-ranked QB Marc Bulger. Steven Jackson remains the only viable fantasy option on the team.

This certainly hurts Avery' status, but I think it could hurt Jackson's even more. What are defenses going to do now? The number 1 WR is not on the field, so Jackson actually becomes the number 1 receiving option. He is going to have to work that much harder now. I'd slide Jackson down a spot or two on the rankings with this news, it's not good.

I'm inclined to agree that defenses will certainly focus all their attention on Jackson now. Let's see what the experts decide to do over the next couple of days.
He'll be back during the season though...in what shape we don't know yet. With Holt gone, Avery is the #1 receiver in St Louis.
