McCullough added that Cabrera threw on Saturday and will get back into game action at some point in the coming days. The 26-year-old righty landed on the injured list earlier this week with a blister on his right middle finger. Barring an unexpected setback, he should be ready to rejoin Miami's rotation by mid-to-late April.
Cabrera was pulled from his start on March 17th with a blister injury, but has already been throwing bullpens and has a simulated game set for this week. This move is retroactive to March 24th, and it seems like Cabrera will be activated from the IL after a minimum stay.
That will come after Cabrera completes a bullpen session Monday. The right-hander is going to open the year on the injured list because of his blister issue, but it does appear that this could be a minimum stint for the 26-year-old. That'd put him back in the middle of the April.
Cabrera left his last start with a blister issue after throwing 10 of his first 12 pitches for balls. The 26-year-old was struggling throughout spring training, so the Marlins will not only give him time to heal his blister but also time to continue to work on his mechanics and control. It would seem that Connor Gillispie, who the Braves claimed off waivers from the Braves in January, has the inside track to begin the season as the fifth starter. He's thrown eight shutout innings this spring with four strikeouts and one walk, but he should be off the fantasy radar outside of the deepest formats.
Cabrera will begin the season on the 15-day injured list with a blister on his right middle finger, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
