It wasn't a great weekend for the Mets, especially on offense. But it wasn't all bad as a few players impressed early on in their debuts for New York.

In a 1-1 game, the Mets let Canning pitch to the top of the order for a third time in the sixth. They almost got away with it, too, but Yordan Alvarez doubled in Isaac Paredes with two outs. Canning definitely looks considerably better than he did last season, but he's still not a guy who is likely to retire Yordan Alvarez three times in a row (in fact, Alvarez was 7-for-13 with two homers and three walks against him during his Angels days). Canning's next start will come next weekend against the Blue Jays.
Canning's striking metamorphosis this spring gives him some appeal for fantasy purposes, even in standard mixed leagues, as a viable streaming option. I'll be challenging to trust him right out of the gate against a team that has plenty of history against him from his time in Los Angeles, but he should be rostered in deeper formats. It'll be Tylor Megill starting on Friday after Clay Holmes takes the ball for Thursday's opener. New York will send out David Peterson and Kodai Senga next week to kick off a three-game series against the division-rival Marlins.
