The Dodgers are looking to add a right fielder and push Mookie Betts back into the infield. With Betts in the infield along with Tommy Edman, Max Muncy, and Miguel Rojas, it seems that Gavin Lux may need to find an opportunity with another team. Perhaps the Dodgers could move Lux in their quest to add more outfield depth, but where the 26-year-old ends up will have a huge impact on his potential fantasy value.
Betts played a pivotal role this past season in leading the Dodgers to their second World Series title in the last five seasons, splitting time between right field, shortstop and second base. The assumption here seems to be that Tommy Edman will transition back to the outfield on a more permanent basis next season with Los Angeles bringing in some additional free agent reinforcements. The big development here for fantasy purposes is that it seems highly likely Betts will regain second base eligibility at some point in the early stages of the 2025 campaign.
Lux has reached four times in 11 plate appearances against the Yankees, but just one of those has come via a hit. The lineup: DH Shohei Ohtani, RF Mookie Betts, 1B Freddie Freeman, LF Teoscar Hernandez, 3B Max Muncy, CF Kike Hernandez, SS Tommy Edman, C Will Smith, 2B Lux.
Gil gave up five hits, walked two and struck out one. He settled down after allowing a double to Mookie Betts and a two-run home run to Freddie Freeman in the first inning. Gil started the fifth inning with a 5-2 lead, but was removed after allowing a leadoff home run to Will Smith and walking Tommy Edman. Gil only threw 67 pitches, but was understandably on a short leash with the Yankees facing elimination. He won't start another game in this series, but could be available out of the bullpen in Game 6 or Game 7 if necessary.
Tommy Edman connected with Freddie Freeman to get Gleyber Torres out at first base to seal the Los Angeles Dodgers' 4-2 victory over the New York Yankees.
