Meidroth has been leading off for Triple-A Charlotte and has gone 3-for-11 (.273) with a home run, a steal, and a 1.012 OPS in three games. While Meidroth didn't put up great numbers in spring training, he showed strong plate discipline and could easily push Jacob Amaya for starts at shortstop if he has a strong few weeks in Triple-A.
The 25-year-old Vargas was a top prospect for the Dodgers but struggled after he was traded to the White Sox last season. He began to recoup some of his past prospect value after hitting .341/.423/.523 in 52 plate appearances this spring with two home runs, five strikeouts, and seven walks. There won't be a ton of value in the White Sox lineup this season, but if Vargas is going to be the primary leadoff hitter, then he could carve out some fantasy value hitting in front of Luis Robert Jr. and Andrew Vaughn. The White Sox's full lineup is: Miguel Vargas 3B, Luis Robert CF, Andrew Benintendi DH, Andrew Vaughn 1B, Austin Slater RF, Lenyn Sosa 2B, Korey Lee C, Jacob Amaya SS, Michael A Taylor LF.
Meidroth will open the regular season at Triple-A Charlotte after hitting .154 (6-for-39) with one extra-base hit and one steal in 16 Cactus League contests. The 23-year-old infielder boasts excellent plate discipline, but might need to get more aggressive at the highest level to emerge as an everyday regular. It'll be some combination of Josh Rojas, Lenyn Sosa and Jacob Amaya handling the starting middle infield roles for the White Sox at the outset of the year.
Singer issued a pair of walks while striking out three opposing hitters. The White Sox scratched out a run against him in the second inning on an RBI single by Jacob Amaya. They added another in the sixth as Tristan Gray smacked a two-out RBI double before Singer exited. He got six swings and misses on 95 pitches on the afternoon, posting a CSW of 21 percent. In Cactus League play, he now sports a 2.55 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and a 21/7 K/BB ratio across 17 2/3 frames.
Amaya missed a few days with a hip injury, but his (relatively) early return to the lineup shows that it was purely precautionary. There's a good chance Amaya will be the starter at shortstop for the White Sox on Opening Day. That doesn't make him a good option for fantasy leagues, of course.
