Ober's velocity was down a bit today; he averaged 90.3 mph with his fastball, compared to 91.7 mph last year, and just 83.1 mph with his slider, compared to 86.2 mph last year. He was also down some, though not quite as much, last time out, so this seems like something worth watching. Ober is an excellent fantasy starter while averaging nearly 92 mph with his fastball, but he is pretty homer prone. Coming in closer to 90 mph would exacerbate that issue.
Kelenic is 4-for-17, but all four of those hits have gone for extra bases. He's set to open up as the Braves' right fielder against right-handers, but the assumption for now is that he'll take on a bench role or go to Triple-A after Ronald Acuna Jr. returns, perhaps in early May.
Ober gave up a homer to Jarred Kelenic, but the other five hits he surrendered did no damage. It helped that he didn't walk anyone. Ober has a 3.86 ERA after two starts.
Wong has been held back by some shoulder soreness, but he was able to catch today. He'll again be the man behind the plate for Boston this season after the team declined to sign a veteran catcher and traded top prospect Kyle Teel for Garrett Crochet.
Connor Wong's homer was the first of many Ober will give up this year, but it shouldn't stop Ober from remaining a quality No. 3 in mixed leagues with his excellent WHIP.
