That outfielder designation for Kreidler is important, as he will be the team's starting center fielder on Opening Day against the Dodgers on Thursday despite logging all of three innings at the position in his big league career. Even if he does see strong side platoon at-bats there, Kreidler is unlikely to produce enough to gain relevancy from a fantasy perspective.
No Opening Day start for the Tigers' righty killing Carpenter with the southpaw on the mound. It's a rather ugly lineup for a team that just went to the postseason and is hoping to make another run this year: 3B Ibanez, 2B Gleyber Torres, LF Riley Greene, DH Spencer Torkelson, RF Manuel Margot, 1B Colt Keith, SS Baez, C Jake Rogers and CF Ryan Kreidler. Things will look better against right-handers with Carpenter, Trey Sweeney and Zach McKinstry taking the spots of Margot (or maybe Tork), Baez and Ibanez, but it's a fairly weak group overall right now, especially with Parker Meadows sidelined.
Henry-Malloy will be optioned down, and Ryan Kreidler instead will begin the season with the Tigers. Malloy showed some decent flashes in his first season with Detroit in 2024, but the Tigers will send him down to get more regular playing time in Toledo. He should be up with the big-league club before the season ends.
The 35-year-old right-hander also issued three walks on the evening while striking out a pair. Josue Briceno got him for a solo homer in the second inning then Ryan Kreidler blasted a two-run shot as part of a five-run uprising in the fourth inning that put the game out of reach. Suarez has had a forgettable spring, posting a 7.89 ERA, 1.75 WHIP and a 15/9 K/BB ratio over 21 2/3 innings in his six appearances (four starts).
