Brown was on fire to start this game as he struck out Francisco Lindor and Juan Soto right off the bat and touched 100 MPH in the process. The Mets jumped on him in the second after a strange play where he picked off Brandon Nimmo, but Brendan Rodgers dropped the ball at second base. Then, Soto got him back with a loud home run. Still, it was a solid start for Brown who forced 13 swings-and-misses and was fearless in challenging the Mets' hitters at the top of the zone. Truthfully, anything is better than the way Brown started last season and it doesn't seem like he is going to slide back to that level of ineffectiveness any time soon. He's scheduled to face the Twins in his next start.

With the Astros throwing left-hander Framber Valdez, the Mets will turn to Acuna at second base instead of the left-handed-hitter Baty. Acuna didn't have as impressive a spring, and Baty will likely be on the strong side of the platoon and starting against right-handed pitchers, but it's worth noting that the Mets are going to give both young players at-bats early in the season. The Mets' full lineup is: Francisco Lindor SS, Juan Soto RF, Pete Alonso 1B, Mark Vientos 3B, Brandon Nimmo LF, Starling Marte DH, Tyrone Taylor CF, Luisangel Acuna 2B, Luis Torrens C.
The Yankees used major leaguers up until the ninth, when they brought in Jordany Ventura. Nimmo took advantage, hitting his first homer in his final at-bat of the spring. He played all nine innings in left field today, so his troublesome knee must be feeling pretty good. He'll likely spend some time at DH early on this season, but the Mets would certainly prefer to have Jesse Winker there and Nimmo in left field most days.
The Mets tied the Yankees, 6-6, on Monday afternoon as their spring training slate concluded.
