Langeliers gave the Athletics a 2-1 lead on a homer to left that just got over the wall off Bryce Miller. The backstop smashed 29 homers in 2024, and he seems like one of the players who will benefit the most from not having his home games played in Oakland.
Miller didn't make many mistakes, but he left a pitch up to Shea Langeliers for a two-run shot. The right-hander struck out four while issuing two walks in a so-so first effort of 2025. Miller will be back on the bump next weekend against the Giants.
No real surprises for the Mariners as Castillo, Bryce Miller and Bryan Woo will follow Opening Day starter Logan Gilbert kick off the season with tasty matchups against the rebuilding Athletics. It'll be Emerson Hancock, who is filling in for an injured George Kirby (shoulder) drawing the starting assignment for Monday's series opener against the upstart Tigers.
Miller punched out five opposing hitters on the afternoon while allowing one base on balls. The Brewers scratched out a pair of unearned runs against him in the third inning, then Miller served up a two-run homer to Wes Clarke before exiting in the sixth. The 26-year-old hurler got just four swings and misses on 76 pitches in the game, registering a CSW of 30 percent. He finishes Cactus League play with a respectable 3.77 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and a 17/3 K/BB ratio over 14 1/3 innings.
The 26-year-old right-hander piled up seven strikeouts on the afternoon while allowing only one base on balls. That lone tally against him came as Gavin Lux stole third base in the second inning and scored as the ball was overthrown. Miller got 12 swings and misses on 62 pitches on the day -- nine of those on his fastball which averaged 95.4 mph -- while registering a strong CSW of 34 percent. Through three Cactus League starts, he holds a 4.00 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and a 12/2 K/BB ratio over nine innings of work. Fantasy managers who still believe in his potential have been plucking him off of draft boards around pick 330 overall.
