NBC SportsThe Athletic's Jim Bowden reported that the Red Sox could include Triston Casas in a trade package for White Sox LHP Garrett Crochet.

While Bowden is speculating on the exact trade package the Red Sox would offer for Crochet, it's interesting to note his mention of Casas since there has been lots of reporting this offseason that the Red Sox are looking to move Rafael Devers off of third base. If the Red Sox were to sign a third baseman and move Devers to first base then they may view Casas as a palatable trade option if it nets them a potential difference-making starter like Crochet. Bowden suggested that "a package of Casas, Wilyer Abreu, and Connor Wong probably gets close to landing Crochet. The Red Sox could then replace Abreu with prospect Roman Anthony in right field, replace Wong with Kyle Teel at catcher."

NBC SportsMLB Network's Jon Morosi reported that the Red Sox could trade OF Wilyer Abreu.

Red Sox president of baseball operation Craig Breslow also said at the start of the offseason that the Red Sox would likely try to trade away some left-handed hitting this offseason, so Morosi's report seems consistent with that. Even though Abreu received AL Rookie of the Year votes and just won his first Gold Glove, the Red Sox have plenty of outfield options and could see Abreu as the ticket to get a young starting pitcher onto their roster. Morosi specifically mentions the Mariners as a trade partner, and we know the Red Sox reached out to them last offseason about trading for one of their young starters. If the Red Sox were to land Juan Soto, trading Abreu would make even more sense. Still, even without Soto, the Red Sox also have Jarren Duran, Ceddane Rafaela, Roman Anthony, who is the top prospect in baseball, and Kristian Campbell, who is the 10th overall prospect in baseball, all competing for MLB at-bats in 2025.

NBC SportsLuis Gil won the American League Rookie of the Year Award.

Gil received 15 out of 30 first-place votes, with 13 going to Colton Cowser, who narrowly finished in second place. Austin Wells finished third with Mason Miller, Cade Smith, Wilyer Abreu and Wyatt Langford also receiving votes in the AL ROY balloting. Gil delivered one of last season's more unexpected breakthrough campaigns, emerging as a key component of New York's starting rotation mix, finishing with a pristine 3.50 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 171/77 K/BB ratio across 151 2/3 innings (29 starts). The 26-year-old righty seems pre-destined to be one of the more polarizing pitchers in the fantasy landscape heading into 2025 drafts, but there's a strong case for putting him somewhere in the top-40 range among starting pitchers.
