Tatis also led off the seventh inning with a walk and scored on a two-out RBI double by Jackson Merrill. He finished his night off with a run-scoring single in the eighth inning that capped off the scoring. He's off to a sizzling start to the 2025 campaign, hitting .467 (7-for-15) with a homer, five runs scored, two RBI and three stolen bases.
Bogaerts plated Jake Cronenworth with a run-scoring double off of AJ Smith-Shawver in the third inning that extended the Padres' lead to 2-0. He also led off the eighth inning with a walk, swiped second base and raced around to score on a double off the bat of Brandon Lockridge. The 32-year-old infielder is now hitting .273 (3-for-11) with a pair of RBI and two stolen bases to begin the 2025 campaign.
The 22-year-old hurler also issued three walks while striking out four on the evening. Despite the parade of baserunners against him, the Padres were only able to scratch out single runs in the first and third innings on run-scoring doubles by Manny Machado and Jake Cronenworth. Smith-Shawver got 13 swings and misses on 77 pitches on the evening -- 10 of those on his splitter alone -- while posting a strong CSW of 32 percent. He'll look to bounce back and try to get in the win column when he does battle against the Marlins at home on Saturday.
