Holmes got off to a rough start against the best team in baseball, as he gave up a two-run homer to Teoscar Hernandez in the first inning. He struck out just three with four free passes in a start that wasn't a disaster, but certainly wouldn't be qualified as a successful one. The Dodgers are good. Holmes will be worth starting against the Marlins on Sunday, assuming that start takes place.
Hernandez swatted a two-run homer off Grant Holmes in the first inning for his second roundtripper of the year. He also singled and walked, and scored three runs for a nice Monday evening for the 32-year-old outfielder. Hernandez should again be a fantasy stalwart, even if his shaky approach can sometimes lead to lulls in production.
Holmes isn't starting until Monday, so the Braves had him available out of the pen today. He struck out two in an easy nine-pitch frame.
Atlanta boasts one of the strongest starting rotations in baseball and that's without strikeout machine Spencer Strider (elbow) ready for Opening Day. It'll be Chris Sale, Lopez, Schwellenbach and prospect AJ Smith-Shawver taking the ball in San Diego before Grant Holmes is forced to contend with the defending World Series champion Dodgers' offensive juggernaut out in Los Angeles.
Holmes had been lined up to start against the Padres on Sunday, but that start will now go to AJ Smith-Shawver, with Holmes lined up to face the Dodgers on Monday. That's obviously a rough turn of events for Holmes, who will now have a two-start week against the Dodgers and Marlins next week. Smith-Shawver becomes more enticing on waiver wires since he will no longer begin the season against the Dodgers.
