Paddack ends the spring with a 4.58 ERA and a 21/4 K/BB in 17 2/3 innings. He's definitely throwing better than he did last year, but we're not especially optimistic that will lead to mixed-league value. That said, he'll be a good play Monday against the White Sox as part of a two-start week that also includes a home start against the Astros.
Hamilton drew the start at second base for the Red Sox in this one with top prospect Kristian Campbell in the lineup as the left fielder. He smacked a one-out single off of Chris Paddack in the third inning, swiped second base and advanced to third on a ground ball but was left stranded there. Hamilton then led off the fifth inning with a single, deftly nabbed both second and third base and scored on a sacrifice fly. We have seen the 27-year-old speedster make an impact in fantasy leagues in limited action before, and if he finds his way into the Red Sox' lineup on a regular basis in 2025 his game-changing speed would make him an intriguing option once again.
Paddack scattered four hits on the evening while issuing a pair of walks. The lone tally against him came in the fifth inning where David Hamilton led off with a single, stole a pair of bases and scored on a sacrifice fly. Paddack generated a whopping 16 swings and misses on the night -- nine on his fastball, four on his changeup and three on his curveball -- while registering a strong CSW of 32 percent. He has pitched well this spring, compiling a 4.40 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and a 16/2 K/BB ratio across 14 1/3 innings through his first four starts.
It seemed as though the Twins were considering keeping Zebby Matthews on their big league roster to be a weapon out of their bullpen, but it sounds like he'll stay stretched out as a starter at the Triple-A level instead. With Matthews and Festa optioned out, that means that Chris Paddack and Simeon Woods-Richardson will handle the final two spots in the Twins' rotation to begin the season.
Paddack left his last start with a head contusion after being hit by a liner, but he showed no ill effects today. Through three spring starts, he's sporting a 5.59 ERA and a 9/0 K/BB in 9 2/3 innings. He figures to open up the season as the Twins' No. 4 starter.
