The Royals announced a wide slate of cuts this morning. Infielder Harold Castro, righty Taylor Clarke, catcher Brian O’Keefe and infielder Tyler Tolbert were all reassigned to minor league camp. All were non-roster invitees. Meanwhile, infielder Nick Loftin and outfielders Drew Waters and Joey Wiemer were optioned to Triple-A Omaha. That leaves just 26 players…
The 26-year-old had a solid spring, going 13-for-34 (.382) with five RBI in 44 plate appearances. Loftin was good for the Royals at Triple-A last season, but he doesn't provide as much defensive versatility as Cavan Biggio, who made the team, and doesn't have the power/speed to move the needle much for fantasy managers.
Biggio is not officially on the 40-man roster yet, but he is starting at first base during the Royals' spring training game on Tuesday and has the positional versatility that the team seems to covet in a bench spot. Biggio hit just .194/.457/.355 this spring and has not been even a solid fantasy producer since 2019, so he will likely help the Royals more than fantasy managers in 2025.

On the plus side though, the right-hander did record five strikeouts in the ballgame and didn't allow a base on balls. Brown retired the first nine hitters that he faced in order -- including strikeouts of Nick Loftin, MJ Melendez, Cavan Biggio and Cam Devanney. He returned for the fourth though, where he allowed four doubles in a span of six batters before exiting. Through his first three appearances this spring, Brown sports a 6.75 ERA, 1.75 WHIP and a 9/1 K/BB ratio across eight innings. He's set to open the season in the rotation at Triple-A Iowa.
