Fox hadn't missed a game all season before Sunday, but is now set to miss back-to-back games with a glute injury. The 27-year-old point guard leads the team in points and assists so this is big absence for Sacramento. Malik Monk will take on more of a playmaking role with the starters while Devin Carter comes off the bench.
The Sacramento Kings reportedly are excluding rookie guard Devin Carter from trade discussions with the Brooklyn Nets for wing Cam Johnson.
After undergoing surgery on his left shoulder this offseason, Carter finally made his debut for the Kings on Friday. He logged 11 minutes and contributed five rebounds and two assists in their win over Memphis. On Sunday, he was able to play 23 minutes and score the first points of his young career. He took on a larger role because of the lopsided score, but it was good to see him have a performance like this one. Carter will continue to play a reserve role moving forward, but he isn't a player that is worth rostering in standard redraft leagues at this point.
Fox fell hard during the fourth quarter of Friday's win over the Grizzlies when Jaren Jackson Jr. fouled him on a shot attempt. The Kings point guard did not participate in Saturday's practice and is trending toward sitting out Sunday's game. If Fox doesn't play, Malik Monk will have added importance as a playmaker, with Jordan McLaughlin possibly entering the rotation. With Devin Carter also available, there's little need to consider streaming McLaughlin.
Devin Carter's father, Grizzlies assistant coach Anthony Carter, had a front-row seat to the Sacramento Kings rookie's NBA debut against Memphis.
