Butler is back with the team at practice Tuesday afternoon. Head coach Erik Spoelstra told reporters the 35-year-old small forward will play Wednesday, ending a streak of five missed games. Haywood Highsmith will return to the bench and Jaime Jaquez Jr, Terry Rozier and Alec Burks will see less usage with Butler back in the lineup.
Butler has already missed three games and will miss at least two more. Haywood Highsmith has been starting in his place, but Alec Burks and Terry Rozier both played extended roles off the bench in their last game, with Jaime Jaquez Jr. also playing well as a starter in their last game.
Jovic injured his ankle during the fourth quarter of Thursday's win over Orlando and did not return. With Jimmy Butler and Josh Richardson ruled out, Jaime Jaquez Jr. and Alec Burks will play more minutes regardless of Jovic's availability. If Jovic sits, there may also be room in the rotation for Pelle Larsson, who did not play against Orlando.
Rozier did not play in Monday's win over the Nets, which would have resulted in more minutes for Dru Smith. Unfortunately, he suffered a season-ending Achilles tendon tear and will not be able to help lessen the blow if Rozier cannot play on Thursday. Nikola Jovic, Alec Burks, and Pelle Larsson will all play additional minutes if Rozier sits, as the Heat are unlikely to have Jimmy Butler.
