Friday's game wasn't going to be an easy matchup for Jackson, especially after Zach Edey exited during the first half with a nasal injury. He didn't have his best night shooting the basketball, and the rebounds and defensive status were minimal. That will happen when faced with the task of dealing with Victor Wembanyama. Also, he's shot over 49% from the field over the past two weeks. Shooting 16-of-44 in two wins over the Spurs has minimally impacted Jackson's numbers. He'll be fine.
In the past, Scotty Pippen Jr. was the choice to step into the starting lineup when Ja Morant was injured. That isn't the case on Friday, as Kennard receives the starting nod. The promotion boosts his fantasy value, while Pippen misses out. That's the lone change to the Grizzlies' starting lineup.
Jackson Jr. got off to a poor start to this game and entered the break shooting 2-of-11 from the floor. He was better in the second half, but he still had his worst shooting performance of the month. Trip had made at least 50% of his shots in each of his five previous games before this one. They close out tis week on Friday with a rematch in San Antonio, and JJJ will look to have a more efficient shooting night in that game.
Bane took a backseat to Jaren Jackson Jr. and Ja Morant in terms of shot attempts Saturday. The 26-year-old shooting guard was efficient, though, with 21 points on 14 shots and four 3-pointers. Despite less usage, Bane still had three turnovers, which has been a problem.
Jackson Jr. took just 15 shots on Thursday as Ja Morant returned to the lineup, but he was back up to 24 attempts Saturday. Jackson Jr. had a big scoring night with 33 points. The 25-year-old power forward has been a fantasy beast this year as he continues to fill up the stat sheet in a variety of categories. Jackson Jr. has returned first round value this season.
