Stewart injured his knee when he landed awkwardly after attempting to block a Terry Rozier shot with just over nine minutes remaining in the second quarter. While he could walk back to the locker room under his own power, Stewart did so with a noticeable limp. If Beef Stew misses time, starter Jalen Duren's minutes should increase, while the recently re-signed Paul Reed could find himself in the rotation.
Two days after the Pistons waived Reed, they brought him back. On Saturday, it was reported that the team hoped to trade him but could not find any takers, hence the decision to waive him. Reed is back, but his chances of impacting fantasy basketball are slim unless the Pistons lose Jalen Duren or Isaiah Stewart.
Duren missed Thursday's game against the Celtics with a right wrist sprain. It's good news that it doesn't appear to be a significant injury as he's off the injury report ahead of Monday's matchup with the Heat. Isaiah Stewart will head back to the bench with Duren available.
Reed has only appeared in a handful of games for Detroit this season, mostly when either Jalen Duren or Isaiah Stewart is out of the lineup. Reed will likely find another team to be a depth piece for, but it is unlikely that he impacts fantasy basketball.
With Jalen Duren sidelined for this game, Stewart got the starting nod, but he was a bit underwhelming. Beef Stew turned in strong numbers in his two other starts this year and has had some decent stretches off the bench. His recent games have been poor, but this was a great opportunity for him to take advantage of extra minutes. If Duren misses time in the future, Stewart will be in line for more starts. Managers shouldn't avoid streaming him in his next start just because of this poor performance, but it was certainly frustrating.
