Cunningham recorded his 18th double-double of the season on Saturday, but the Suns (specifically, Ryan Dunn) made him work hard for it. The 26.9% mark from the field was Cade's lowest in a game this season, making fewer than 30% of his attempts for the second time (6-of-21 vs. Toronto, November 15). Over his last two games, Cunningham has shot 14-of-47 from the field. Given his play for the season, fantasy managers should not be too concerned moving forward. Cunningham and the Pistons play three games during Week 13.
Cunningham had been on a tear entering this game, but this simply wasn't a great night for him. He still came close to recording another double-double, but his lack of efficiency really hurt them in the loss. It says a lot about him as a player that a 20/4/9 line is a subpar night for him. He has enjoyed a breakout season that has Detroit on pace to make the postseason for the first time in Cade's career. He'll look to get back on track with the Suns coming to town on Saturday to close out the week.
Tom Haberstroh and Dan Devine dive into the numbers and break down whether or not Cade Cunningham deserve a shout for the NBA s Most Improved Player award this season.
Cunningham had 36 points (14-27 FG, 4-8 3Pt, 4-4 FT), four assists, two rebounds and one steal in 32 minutes during Monday's 124-119 win over New York.
Coming off a triple-double on Saturday, Cunningham dropped 36 points in 32 minutes and led the Pistons to a road victory over the Knicks. The 23-year-old point guard had 29 of his 36 points in the second half despite picking up his fourth foul in the second quarter. Cunningham continues to carry the Pistons and fantasy teams over the last month.
