Brunson injured his ankle on March 6, and multiple outlets reported that he'll be out until late March at the earliest. He's progressed to doing some on-court work, and the Knicks will provide another update in one week. Miles McBride will remain the starting point guard until Brunson returns. While this raises McBride's fantasy ceiling, his production has been lackluster, and the Knicks have struggled as a team.
McBride was questionable ahead of Thursday's game, but he was able to play through the groin contusion in that game. However, if he is held out against Washington, Cameron Payne will likely move into the starting unit, which would open up extra minutes for rookie Tyler Kolek.
McBride has played well as the starting point guard for the Knicks in place of Jalen Brunson, who is still sidelined with an ankle injury. However, Thursday wasn't his best performance. McBride had at least 10 points and two three-pointers in five consecutive games prior to this game against Charlotte. Head coach Tom Thibodeau said earlier in the day that they're hoping to have Brunson play a few games before the playoffs, but based on that, Brunson may not return until April. McBride's role should be safe for a little while longer, and he'll have an opportunity to bounce back against the Wizards on Saturday.
McBride was initially listed as questionable, but he will be able to suit up once again on Thursday. He should fill out his typical place in the starting lineup, where he has scored in double figures in five consecutive games.
McBride (groin) is available for Thursday's game against the Hornets, Stefan Bondy of The New York Post reports.
