Keon Ellis answered his own call to be the "next man up" for the Sacramento Kings with a career performance in Monday night's loss to the Atlanta Hawks at Golden 1 Center.
What a night it was for Ellis, who was able to set new career-highs for both points and 3-pointers. Entering this game, he had hit a total of 11 threes this season. The only other game where he hit more than one 3-pointer was in their other matchup with Atlanta. This was an unexpected but incredibly performance out of Ellis, who hasn't been able to take advantage of Malik Monk and DeMar DeRozan being out of the lineup. Both players are expected to be back soon, but Ellis should have earned more playing time with his performance in this game.
DeRozan left Wednesday's game against the Suns late with a back injury. Monday night against the Hawks will be the third straight game that he's missed. Kevin Huerter and Keon Ellis should fill-in for DeRozan and will continue to have streaming value.
Due to his back injury, DeRozan will miss a second straight game on Saturday. Kevin Huerter and Keon Ellis are the players worth targeting for managers seeking out a streamer. Doug McDermott may pick up more rotation minutes, but his fantasy upside is limited.
With DeMar DeRozan sidelined, Len will get his first start of the season in a massive lineup for the Kings. There's definitely a chance that Len still doesn't play the typical minutes of a starter, but this is a great opportunity for him. Keon Ellis should see extra minutes off the bench with DeRozan and Malik Monk out.
