Vassell has carried a large portion of the Spurs' offense recently, with Thursday's loss marking the fourth-straight game that he has finished with at least 20 points and three triples. March has been a phenomenal month for Vassell, and it gives Spurs fans plenty of optimism heading into next season despite their postseason chances being dashed by the injuries to Victor Wembanyama and De'Aaron Fox. Vassell's numbers overall this season are down from last year, but March has been one of the best stretches of his young career.
Head coach of the French National team, Frederic Fauthoux, said Thursday that Wembanyama underwent surgery on the deep vein thrombosis in his right shoulder and is feeling fine, Jeff Garcia of KENS 5 San Antonio reports.
France and Slovenia were slotted into the same group for this year's EuroBasket tournament on Thursday, opening the possibility of a Victor Wembanyama-Luka Don i matchup during the summer event which starts in late August.
While it wasn't enough to get the Spurs another victory, Vassell remains on an offensive tear. He's scored 20 points or more in three straight and five of his last seven appearances, providing second-round value in nine-cat formats over the past two weeks. While the season-ending injuries for Victor Wembanyama and De'Aaron Fox weren't good, the improved play of Vassell and Stephon Castle has been a positive for the Spurs during the post-break portion of the schedule.
Sochan has started the last two games for San Antonio as part of a smaller starting lineup, and that has led to two wins for the Spurs. Sochan has scored in double figure in six consecutive games, but his 23 points on Friday were a new season-high for him. Though the Spurs' playoff hops went down the drain when Victor Wembanyama was ruled out for the rest of the season, they have won four of their last six games and sit just three games out of the postseason picture. Sochan should continue to produce at a high level as long as he is starting.
