5 Tight Ends to Target in 2022

If you're not willing to invest an early round draft pick on Travis Kelce, Mark Andrews, or Kyle Pitts, then continue to stock up on running backs and receivers and target these guys later in your draft.

Dallas Goedert (8th Round ADP)

Dallas GoedertWith A.J. Brown arriving in Philly, we fully expect the Eagles to throw more this season. That shouldn't be too difficult as they were a run-heavy team last season. Dallas Goedert was 170 yards short of a 1,000 yard season last year. He could have flirted with that mark if he didn't have to share targets with Zach Ertz for part of the season. In 2022, Goedert is the clear #1 TE in this offense and should benefit from both Brown and DeVonta Smith spreading the defense. His efficiency should help bolster his TE value as he has consistently made the most of his targets. The projected point differential between Goedert and folks like George Kittle, Dalton Schultz, and T.J. Hockenson is less than one point per week.

Dawson Knox (8th Round ADP)

Dawson KnoxWith arguably the league's best QB under center, Dawson Knox returns after a season where he led all tight ends in touchdowns (9) and finished in the Top 5 for end zone targets. He finished the year at #11 for fantasy tight ends (PPR). There will likely be some regression on the touchdown side (he had just 3 the previous season) and we have some concern over the usage of O.J. Howard, but neither of these is a reason to downgrade him from his current ADP. The Buffalo offense puts up serious points and we'll take any part that we can get.

Zach Ertz (9th Round ADP)

Zach ErtzOne of our favorite targets this season is Zach Ertz. By the time the 9th round arrives, we've got a solid core of backs and receivers. If you missed out on Goedert or Knox, the projected weekly point differential between them and Ertz is less than one point. Ertz found his rhythm in Arizona last season becoming one of Kyler Murray's favorite targets. He was the third most targeted TE in the NFL last year averaging 6.6 targets/game, and he could see that number rise particularly at the start of the year with DeAndre Hopkins set to miss some time. Although he played in all 17 games last year, durability remains a concern for Ertz. For a guy likely to finish the year as a Top 10 TE, there's very little doubt that he presents great value at his current ADP.

Mike Gesicki (10th Round ADP)

Mike GesickiThere are a lot of question marks circling the Dolphins this year. We're not fans of Tua Tagovailoa by any means, but there's no denying the talent that surrounds him this season. Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle will be able to spread the defense like few other teams can. That can be both a blessing and a curse in that he should find himself open underneath, but he'll also be competing for targets on a team that has been rather pedestrian in their passing attempts. Gesicki has not been the most consistent player each week, but as long as fantasy owners know that going in, he should meet expectations. In fact, he has the potential to flirt with another Top 10 season.

Cole Kmet (11th Round ADP)

Cole KmetMark our words: Cole Kmet is going to break out in 2022. Entering his third season, Kmet has all the right ingredients to make this season sweet. Jimmy Graham is now a free agent leaving those end zone targets up for grabs. With a new offensive coordinator, very little competition at the WR spot, and 2nd-year QB Justin Fields ready to step up, expectations for Kmet couldn't be higher. From a points projection standpoint, he's currently projected to deliver the same points each week as Dawson Knox but you can get him three rounds later. Come January, we would not be surprised to see Kmet finish as a Top 12 Tight End.

Cole Kmet COULD have a breakout year if he can catch the ball!

That caveat is appropriate. :-)
