Bengals "TE" Mike Gesicki ran the team's third-most routes in Sunday night's loss to the Chargers. His 43 routes trailed only Ja'Marr Chase (55) and Tee Higgins (50), and constituted 76.8% of Joe Burrow's dropbacks. But Gesicki drew just 2 targets and caught nary a one. TEs Tanner Hudson and Drew Sample also garnered 2 targets apiece vs. L.A.
Gesicki immediately faded into irrelevance with the return of Tee Higgins following a three-game absence for the veteran wide receiver, failing to catch either of his two targets while seeing his snap rate plummet. It appears the mid-season surge in volume and production was just a flash in the pan, with fantasy managers clear to release him back to the waiver wire void.
Higgins and left tackle Orlando Brown Jr. (knee/fibula), who Taylor also called day-to-day, both participated in walkthroughs on Monday, but Taylor said we shouldn't read too much into that. If Higgins is truly day-to-day, then it sounds like he'll have a chance to suit up in Week 11 against the Chargers. That said, we wouldn't read too much into his availability until we get a look at Wednesday's injury report. Higgins has missed the last two games due to his quad injury, which has resulted in an uptick in targets for Mike Gesicki.
Bengals TE Mike Gesicki managed just four catches for 30 scoreless yards in Thursday night's loss to the Ravens. A disappointing result, but the usage was everything fantasy owners were hoping for. Gesicki drew nine targets -- third most on the team and a solid 16.1% share. Two of those targets came inside the red zone, including one that Gesick brought down at Baltimore's two-yard line.
The Bengals were inside the 5-yard line on the first possession of Thursday night's game when Joe Burrow completed a short pass to Mike Gesicki, and Ravens coach John Harbaugh threw his challenge flag.
