The Giants were two-score underdogs against a team with a rookie quarterback making his first career start in Week 16. We quickly found out why. Lock's second pick-six -- talk about a phrase where you never want to see the word "second" -- seemed to be more the fault of his right tackle, who botched the play. It was, nevertheless, a pick-six. His first a quarter earlier was all on the signal caller, as Lock never saw Jessie Bates easily jumping the route. Lock also lost a fumble in an all-around dismal performance. Lock is being put in an impossible position, but he's not improving it in any way, shape or form. He's not an NFL-level starter and probably isn't a legitimate No. 2, either. It's unclear who of Lock, Tommy DeVito, and Tim Boyle may start against the Colts in Week 17.
Six New York Giants are inactive for Sunday's Week 16 game at the Atlanta Falcons, headlined by emergency third quarterback Tim Boyle.
Unwelcome news for Michael Penix Jr.'s starting debut, but the rookie never expected things to be easy. Inactive for the G-Men are QB Tim Boyle, CB Greg Stroman, CB Dee Williams, CB Divaad Wilson, OG Aaron Stinnie and DL Casey Rogers.
Giants QB Drew Lock will start Sunday's game vs. the Falcons, HC Brian Daboll said. QB Tommy DeVito is in concussion protocol, while Tim Boyle ... is Tim Boyle. Lock hasn't been any good this year, completing 51% of his passes at 4.6 yards per attempt with 0 TDs and 2 INTs. He at least targeted WR Malik Nabers 23 times on a 28.4% share in his two full games. Nabers caught 13 of those passes for 148 yards. He remains a fine WR2 play this week. Lock should be nowhere near fantasy lineups.
Tommy DeVito sustained a brain injury in Week 15 against the Ravens, opening the door for another Lock start in a miserable Giants season. Lock has been worse than usual as New York's starter, completing 50 percent of his pass attempts for zero touchdowns and two interceptions on 90 attempts. Lock's insertion into the New York lineup is bad news for Malik Nabers and the rest of the Giants pass catchers. Tim Boyle will likely serve as Lock's backup and could very well see playing time if (when) Lock struggles against Atlanta.
