It's the least surprising football news we'll hear all week. Just days after benching Jake Haener for an atrocious half of football, the Saints have decided it would be best to start Rattler in Monday night's game against the Packers. Rattler had an up-and-down outing in the two quarters he played against the Commanders but nearly mounted a comeback win in the fourth quarter when he threw a touchdown to Foster Moreau as time expired. A failed two-point conversion attempt ultimately sealed the Saints' fate in the 20-19 defeat, but Rattler was unquestionably the best available quarterback for the Saints last week. Fantasy managers in traditional 1QB leagues can ignore Rattler, but he may have some viability for those in 2QB/Superflex leagues.
Moreau came up big late for the Saints in Sunday's loss. Moreau caught a seven-yard pass a fourth-and-three to convert a first down and bring the Saints down to the Commanders' one-yard line, and subsequently caught a one-yard score on the following play. It was the fourth touchdown of the season for Moreau, who has now caught 23 passes for 302 yards and four scores on the year. He's now seen four targets in three of his last four games, but shouldn't be relied on in Week 16's game against the Packers.
Rattler came on in the second half in place of Jake Haener, who threw for just 49 yards on 4-of-10 passing. Rattler fared much better than Haener, immediately leading the Saints on a touchdown drive on his first possession and later mounting an attempted game-winning drive in the final minutes of the game. With less than two minutes left in regulation, the Saints drove all the way down field to score on a one-yard touchdown pass from Rattler to Foster Moreau. In hopes of securing the win, the Saints opted to go for two, but came up just short in the attempt to after a pass to Juwan Johnson was broken up in the end zone. Assuming Derek Carr (hand) is unable to go in Week 16 against the Packers, we would expect Rattler to make his fourth start of the season.
Moreau saw four targets against the Rams, all within a few yards of the line of scrimmage, except for one deep target that he caught one-handed out of bounds. With Taysom Hill potentially dealing with a concerning knee injury, Moreau is on the fantasy radar. He will work behind Juwan Johnson, but Moreau has some utility as a fantasy TE3 for Week 14 against the Giants.
