Canales praised Bryce Young for his performance in Week 10's win over the Giants, but he reportedly still has some interest in Andy Dalton beyond this season and could give him another shot for further evaluation. The Panthers will face a stout Chiefs defense in Week 12, which will make for a tough challenge for whoever is under center. It wouldn't be surprising if Young got the start coming off the bye week, but Canales is clearly keeping his options open.
Young took over for an injured Andy Dalton two weeks ago and has fared better in his second stint as the Panthers' starting quarterback this season. He has three touchdowns with as many interceptions and got his first win of the year with an upset over the Saints on Sunday. Dalton may still be the better starter in a vacuum, but Young has done enough to get a third nod in a row as the Panthers wade through the second half of yet another lost season. Fantasy managers can ignore Young as a streaming option versus the Giants this week.
Canales also conceded that gamesmanship was part of the reason they hadn't decided yet. OK, Dave. It makes little sense for the team to turn back to Andy Dalton with Bryce Young showing flickers of life the last two weeks, but perhaps they'll get an offer for Young that is simply too good to pass up at the trade deadline. We'd list Young as the favorite to start against the Giants in Germany on Sunday.
Panthers coach Dave Canales doesn't know who his starting quarterback is after Bryce Young led his team to a win in place of the injured Andy Dalton on Sunday.
Sanders also drew a 22-yard DPI. His 46-yard catch-and-run in the third quarter was one of the Panthers' plays of the day, and helped set up a touchdown. Fourth-rounder Sanders has continued to come on for a team in evaluation mode, and with Diontae Johnson gone and a few other players maybe likely to follow, Sanders could become a mainstay in the top 20 at tight end. TE1 will probably be too much to ask with Bryce Young/Andy Dalton at the controls.
