Coming off a game in which he went for 74 yards and caught his first touchdown, fantasy exuberance swiftly came crashing back to earth with the return of Nico Collins. Metchie shouldn't see many weeks of fantasy viability for as long as the top two receivers remain healthy in Houston.
QB C.J. Stroud helped stake the Texans to a 23-7 first-half lead Sunday night against the Lions but wound up struggling -- predictably -- the rest of the way. He threw for 164 yards and a TD on 14-of-20 passing in the first half, finding WR John Metchie in the end zone late in the second quarter. But Stroud went just 6 for 13 after the break, for 68 yards and a pair of INTs.
Texans WR John Metchie tied for the team lead with 5 receptions in Sunday night's loss to the Lions. He also led Houston with 74 receiving yards and snagged the team's only TD catch.
A 23-7 halftime lead and five interceptions was not enough for the Texans to escape Week 10 with a victory after Detroit outscored Houston 19-0 after the break to steal away the win. Even so, Metchie notched his first professional touchdown after overcoming cancer his rookie season, offering flanking production opposite Tank Dell after Nico Collins was activated from injured reserve but announced as inactive against for the team's game against the Lions. Metchie is likely to fall back to a tertiary role through the air once Collins returns, which appears likely to occur when the team faces the Cowboys in Week 11.
