After being listed as questionable heading into the weekend, Coker is officially active and profiles as a boom-or-bust WR5. He posted a solid 4-110-1 line on six targets in last week's loss to the Panthers. While Coker is active, Xavier Legette was declared inactive, although that announcement was handed down before the weekend. The Panthers also declared S Jordan Fuller, CB Shemar Bartholomew, WR Velus Jones Jr., CB Akayleb Evans, C Cade Mays, and OL Brandon Walton inactive.
Carolina signed Mike Boone off their own practice squad and Boone will backup Chuba Hubbard today. Velus Jones Jr. is also on the depth chart, but will likely replace Blackshear on special teams. Jadeveon Clowney (knee), Josey Jewell (hamstring), and Jaycee Horn (groin) are playing on questionable tags. Also inactive for Carolina are: S Nick Scott, CB Shemar Bartholomew, CB Akayleb Evans, LB Trevin Wallace, OL Jarrett Kingston, and DT Sam Roberts.
With Jonathon Brooks and Miles Sanders on injured reserve, Blackshear is in line for RB2 duties in Carolina if healthy. Recently signed Velus Jones is listed as a receiver by the Panthers but played some running back with the Bears before being cut. He would seemingly be the team's backup without Blackshear, though Mike Boone is also waiting in the wings on the practice squad. All of this is to say, expect plenty of Chuba Hubbard to close out the year.
The Panthers are bringing in a pair of skill-position players to close out the season. Carolina is set to sign Velus Jones off the Jaguars’ practice squad, Fox Sports’ Jordan Schultz reports. The team is also adding wideout Trenton Irwin on a taxi squad deal, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. [RELATED: Jonathon Brooks Suffers ACL […]
With Jonathan Brooks and Raheem Blackshear both injured -- Brooks for the season -- the plan behind Chuba Hubbard in the Carolina backfield is shifting. Mike Boone will probably get some elevations and be the main secondary running back. Jones Jr. might take Blackshear's spot on the roster as a returner if Blackshear gets sent to injured reserve.
