In addition to his skills on special teams, Derius Davis has started to establish himself as threat on offense in the Justin Herbert-led passing attack.
Chargers WR Josh Palmer suffered a heel injury in Saturday's win over the Patriots. HC Jim Harbaugh didn't have an update on the severity on Monday but said that IR isn't on the table. We'll look for more information on Palmer's injury but don't expect him to play in Sunday's finale vs. the Raiders. That could mean more snaps for guys like D.J. Chark and Derius Davis, although neither would be a bankable Week 18 fantasy start.
Davis also tacked on a carry for a loss of three yards. He made a leaping catch on a Justin Herbert throw for a 23-yard touchdown in the first quarter to start off scoring. It was his second career receiving touchdown as he continues to work as a gadget player in addition to being a returner for the Chargers. Davis remains off fantasy radars moving forward.
Herbert got off to a fast start against a weak Patriots pass rush. He started scoring off by zipping a 23-yard pass to Derius Davis for a touchdown. Ladd McConkey was once again Herbert's favorite target, as the two connected all day long, including for a pair of touchdowns. Herbert also added three carries for 12 yards as he sat nearly the entire fourth quarter with the Chargers up big. Taylor Heinicke came on in relief, not completing either of his two pass attempts and running once for eight yards. Herbert gave fantasy managers an excellent Week 17 performance as the Chargers locked up a playoff spot. He is a back-end fantasy QB1 for those still in fantasy matchups for Week 18.
Herbert connects with Davis to get Los Angeles on the board against New England.
