NBC SportsUnderdog's James Palmer reports Patrick Mahomes (ankle) "is going to try and give it a go" in Week 16 against the Texans.

Though Mahomes won't be nearly 100 percent recovered from his Week 15 high ankle sprain, the "expectation," per Palmer, is that he'll be under center for the Chiefs on Saturday against Houston. Mahomes logged a full practice on Tuesday. Barring a setback in the next couple days, he should be able to start for KC against a tough Texans defense. If not, Carson Wentz would get the nod. Mahomes under center would be something of a boon for Travis Kelce and DeAndre Hopkins.

NBC SportsNFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports there's a "possibility" Patrick Mahomes (ankle) will be out in Week 16.

Though Mahomes is "built differently," per Rapoport, and won't miss the usual 4-6 weeks it takes to recover from a high ankle sprain, his Week 16 status is in doubt. That would mean Carson Wentz would get the nod for KC against the Texans. It would be a marked downgrade for Travis Kelce, DeAndre Hopkins, and the rest of the Chiefs pass catchers. The team will do everything in its power to have Mahomes ready to go for the postseason.
