This was everything fantasy managers could have asked for and then some in Tua Tagovailoa's first game back. Achane opened the game with an 11-yard gain which was just his sixth rush of more than 10 yards since Tua went down in Week 2. His longest carry of the year and his first rush of over 20 yards came in the third quarter. He made multiple Arizona defenders miss on a 47-yard dash and then capped the drive with a receiving touchdown a few plays later. Achane split the backfield with Raheem Mostert, who scored two short touchdowns, but was as efficient as ever, giving fantasy managers hope that he can return to his RB1 ways going forward. He gets a date with the run-funnel Bills in Week 9.
Mostert posted an ugly stat line when measured by yards per carry, but he handled much of the dirty work for Miami, artificially dropping his efficiency. That also meant he got the team's goal line carries, two of which he converted for touchdowns. They were his first two touchdowns of the season. Miami got Tua Tagovailoa back for this game and immediately posted their highest-scoring week of the season. The offense should contniue to put Mostert in advantageous spots going forward. Mostert will sit in the RB2 ranks for his Week 9 matchup with Buffalo.
Returning from a concussion, Achane got the start and resumed his 1A role ahead of Raheem Mostert. His 77 yards rushing were by far his most since Tua Tagovailoa's Week 2 concussion, a promising sign ahead of Tagovailoa's expected Week 8 return. Tagovailoa's injury has colored everything, but Achane was lagged disastrously from his 2023 production from both a raw output and efficiency perspective. He will check in as a back-end RB2 against the Cardinals.
A clear 1B behind a returning De'Von Achane -- the second-year pro easily won both the snap and touch battles -- Mostert was not targeted in the passing game and lost what turned out to be a game-changing fumble. Bad, though the good news is Tua Tagovailoa's (concussion) expected return for Week 8. That will keep Mostert relevant as a FLEX back who should see both touchdown and big-play opportunities against the Cardinals.
With De'Von Achane back and Raheem Mostert still chugging, Wright reverted to pure change-of-pace/breather work. He still provided the Dolphins' longest rush of the day. Wright would be a more intriguing option in other backfields, but there are probably zero non-injury paths to him earning a top-two role in Miami. Even with Tua Tagovailoa expected back from his concussion in Week 8 against the Cardinals, Wright lacks 12-team league standalone value.
