The Good, The Bad, and The Funny
First the good - a big wonderful congratulations to Sara Holliday at FFLibrarian.com on her new bundle of joy. I enjoy reading Sara's daily contributions to the fantasy football world and will miss them while she's taking some much-needed time to get to know her new little guy. Sara gave me my break and is a respected member of the fantasy football industry. I hope she enjoys this time. The journey has just begun! Congrats Sara!

The Bad - Does Arizona have a passing game? Kurt Warner retired so the torch was passed to Matt Leinart. Matt Leinart was shown the door which gave the torch to Derek Anderson, the outcast from Cleveland. Anquan Boldin bolted. Breaston is out this week. You can be absolutely sure that Fitzgerald has the undivided attention of the Chargers pass defense. Not good. Can someone check on Kurt? Is he busy this weekend?
The Bad - it doesn't look like Steven Jackson is going to be playing this weekend (double check before game time of course). He missed practice again and his history suggests that he'll be out for some time. "We have done all pool exercises and rehabbing and non-weight bearing," Jackson said. "Really it's not running. It's the range of motion. That's where my hiccup is and that's where cutting and doing the things that you have to do on the football field is kind of scary." My issue with Jackson is that his injuries have made him such a risky play. I swore I learned my lesson after his surprise Week 16 sit last year (I lost the championship because of that), but here I am with Jackson again (hey - he was available in the 3rd round of a 10-team league). Will I never learn?
The Funny - Chad Ochocinco is no stranger to controversy, but this time it's not his own doing. His cereal "OchocincO's" has a phone number on the side for Feed the Children, an amazing and wonderful charity. The problem is that the phone number was wrong and it led to a sex line that may not have had the type of wholesome goodness that he was hoping for.
The Funny - Rookie Cowboy's WR Dez Bryant made news during training camp when he refused to carry Roy Williams' pads, a common rookie hazing ritual. Instead he chose to take the offense out to dinner. Roy, certainly wanting the whole team to enjoy the camaraderie, invited the defense as well who joined in what must have been the feast of a lifetime. The total bill? Just under $55,000. Ouch!

I applaud your efforts toward breast cancer awareness, but did you know that September is national Prostate Cancer Awareness Month? It's at least as big of a health issue as breast cancer, but doesn't get near the recognition. One out of six males will get prostate cancer during their lifetime. Over 32,000 American men will lose their battle this year. About one third of all newly diagnosed male cancer is prostate cancer (by far the largest category). Men gotta start getting PSA tests at least by age 50. Catching it early is key to effective treatment.
Help spread the word. We men gotta get our s**t together and raise the awareness.

I was chatting with my friend Andrew today on this very topic and the two of you make excellent points. With a little research, it turns out that breast cancer has an 86% survival rate. Prostate cancer, while important, has a 99% survival rate after 5 years and 81% after 20 years.
Regardless, the point you make is incredibly valid, particularly when considering that pancreatic cancer has a 5 year survival rate of just 4% and lung cancer has a 5 year survival rate of 15%. It's my opinion that these are just as, if not more worthy than most other cancers.
I haven't had a cigarette in more than a year, but I smoked a pack a day for 14 years. I'm under no illusion that I will escape cancer. You guys know that I'm a numbers-kinda guy, and regrettably, the numbers are not in my favor on this one.
It wasn't until Andrew and I were discussing this that I realized the fact that I pay more attention to breast cancer than the others is because I instinctively would protect my mother, my wife, and my grandmother well before I would think of myself. It also helps that the NFL makes it a priority to raise awareness which gets me thinking about it.
My donation to StandUp2Cancer doesn't go towards just one form of cancer. SU2C has generated nearly $80 million dollars so far and I think it's going to take many, many, many millions more.

I didn't mean to imply that cancer awareness is a zero sum game, i.e. that awareness of prostate cancer has to come at the expense of other cancers. The reason that there is such a high noise level about breast cancer is because a) if you catch it early enough you can change the course for certain subtypes, and b) The Susan G. Komen foundation has done a superb job of marketing both early detection and research. Kudos to them.
Men simply don't know enough about prostate cancer to adequately protect themselves. That 99% survival rate is a bit misleading (though correct). Men who get diagnosed at an advanced stage (when it's no longer localized to the prostate) usually must resort to chemical castration and chemo to get those extra years. They get the time, but the quality of life ain't great. Of course the same can be said for the folks with other cancers who have to go through chemo.
My only point to this monolog is that this is a "manly" site, and one of my favorites I might add. If all my ranting gets one guy to go get a PSA it's been worth the nagging. Guys gotta remind guys to take care of themselves.

I'd love to see a national movement similar to the one the NFL is doing for all men. A "get yourself checked" type of campaign.
It's a worthy topic and I thank you for bringing it up!
