Meltdown in Minnesota

As a Packers fan I have little love for Minnesota, but even I feel a little bad for the Vikings as I watch Green Bay take Aaron Rodgers out in the 4th quarter. What a difference a year makes. Last year, Favre and the Vikes could not be stopped. This year they're a mess.

What does it say when thousands of fans are chanting "Fire Childress"...at a home game? This comes a week after several Minnesota players anonymously ripped their head coach to shreds in the media. After Brett Favre threw the pick, you could see him arguing with Darrell Bevell on the sidelines which was not a good sign. Reading lips we could see Favre saying "not now". Later we got to see defensive end Ray Edwards and cornerback Chris Cook arguing on the sidelines with some choice words for each other. To add insult to injury, Kevin Williams had a misprint on his jersey. Seriously, how hard is it to double check the spelling of "Williams"?

The only real bright spot remaining in Minnesota is All-Pro RB Adrian Peterson. While I wasn't impressed with his production today, I laughed my butt off at his NFL/Verizon commercial. The fantasy fan's girlfriend takes a dip in the pool while he watches the Vikings/Packers game on his phone. When the girlfriend comes out of the pool as Adrian Peterson, she says "You're picturing me as Adrian Peterson again, aren't you?" He replies coyly "You're silly Adrian Peterson."

For the Vikings, they may as well get into commercials because it appears that their season is finished.

It saddens me to hear you're a Packer fan. I held you in much higher esteem before I learned that sad fact . I'm a franchise-long Vikings fan (Packers prior) and I have to agree that the Vikes are done for 2010 and probably for several more years to boot. My hope is that they trade Peterson and Allen for some draft choices and start from scratch rebuilding the team. The O line can't protect nor tear holes for AP as it used to, the D line can't get pressure and the QB situation is a total mess. I'm glad Favre joined us and gave us a great 2009 to remember, but it's clear he's not getting the time he needs to be anywhere near effective and his arm is a thing of the past. Depending on the NFL findings, this Sunday may be his last game, and maybe it should be. On the bright side, Van Brocklin always had Lombardi's number and the Vikes will ride rough shod over the Pack again. I just gotta live long enough...

P.S. There was a lol after those first two lines that didn't show. Those comments were in jest.

Lutefisk - you're a Vikings fan? Well, that just goes to show you that nobody's perfect. Just kidding.

I'm still a Favre fan and appreciative for all he did in Green Bay. He was a fantasy monster for me last year as well, but I agree with you 100% that he's just not as effective as he was last year (minus the career-high yardage game). If that offensive line could hold up, it may have been a different story.

Now if we could just do something about those Bears...
