Week 10 Start'em - Sit'em
This is the Fantasy Football Nerd's look at the best and worst matchups for Week 10 of the 2019 NFL season. Analysis is aggregated from multiple sources including FFN. FFN rankings are based upon PPR (point per reception) scoring. Given the known conditions, these matchups are the ones to watch and/or avoid.
Please Note: This list does not generally include the elite players that you are going to start regardless of matchup. You don't need us to tell you to start Aaron Rodgers, Travis Kelce, or DeAndre Hopkins. Instead, we take a look at other players on your team that we believe either have great matchups or should be avoided for multiple reasons. Factors like opposing defense, performance trending, and peer comparisons may influence our decisions.
Start 'em Jameis Winston (TB, QB)Ranked 3rd this week is Jameis Winston during Bye-mageddon in what is a beautiful matchup. The Cardinals are giving up the 2nd-most scores and fantasy points to the QB position including multiple 30+ point games.
Start 'em Kyler Murray (ARI, QB)Lining up across the field from Jameis Winston is our 5th-ranked QB this week: Kyler Murray. The Bucs have surrendered an average of 310 yards through the air to quarterbacks this year and the 3rd-most fantasy points to them. Look for both Murray and Winston to put up Top-10 fantasy days.
Start 'em Jimmy Garoppolo (SF, QB)You don't have to be Erin Andrews to get Garoppolo's eye. The Seahawks have it this week, and while they give up almost 20 fantasy points per week, they can be stingy at times. Garoppolo comes into the FFN rankings at #13 making him a borderline QB1 in a week where 6 teams are on bye.
Start 'em Marlon Mack (IND, RB)Ranked 10th this week on FFN is Marlon Mack who gets his turn to beat up a little on the Dolphins. Miami has been generous to running backs this year giving up the 5th-most fantasy points to them.
Start 'em David Montgomery (CHI, RB)The Bears didn't bother to get Montgomery involved in the offense until the second half last week, but once they did, he exploded for two scores. Let's hope they get him involved against the Lions who give up more fantasy points than anyone else to running backs.
Start 'em Devin Singletary (BUF, RB)Have we finally seen the torch get passed? Devin Singletary rushed 20 times for 95 yards and one touchdown last week. He was more efficient and effective than Frank Gore, and the opportunity for fantasy points is there this week as Cleveland routinely gives up double-digit production.
Start 'em Golden Tate (NYG, WR)The Jets just got torched by Miami's Preston Williams and DeVante Parker to the tune of a combined 40 fantasy points last week. There's no reason not to expect double-digit fantasy production from him when the New York teams battle it out on Sunday.
Start 'em Allen Robinson (CHI, WR)Robinson put up a stinker last week, but don't let that sway you from starting him. He is Chicago's passing game and is the 6th-most targeted WR in the NFL this year. He leads the team in targets and receptions. In a matchup with the Lions, expect him to continue to see that kind of volume in the passing game.
Start 'em Emmanuel Sanders (SF, WR)Sanders has played two games for the Niners and he has scored in both. Can he make it a three-peat? There's very little reason to suggest that Sanders won't be able to deliver once again (even if not in the endzone - certainly on receptions and yards). He's ranked 20th this week making him an outstanding WR2 option.
Start 'em Greg Olsen (CAR, TE)There's not a lot of great options at TE this week. While the Packers have been very solid against opposing wideouts, they've been fairly generous to opposing tight ends giving up the 11th-most fantasy points to them. Look for Olsen to be be Kyle Allen's security blanket in this one.
Start 'em Gerald Everett (LAR, TE)Need a decent bye week option at TE? Look no further than Gerald Everett. With no Brandin Cooks this week, a struggling Robert Woods, and an opposing secondary focused on Cooper Kupp, Everett could be a great option against the Steelers who are giving up the 5th-most points to tight ends this year.
Start 'em Baltimore Ravens (BAL, DEF)This one really comes down to the fact that it's the first game for Ryan Finley under center for the Bengals. The Ravens put up fantastic numbers against Tom Brady and the Patriots last week, so a matchup with Finley feels like we have Oprah Winfrey handing out fantasy points. You get fantasy points! And You get fantasy points!
Start 'em Zane Gonzalez (ARI, K)Zane Gonzalez has the power of 2 behind him. He's the 2nd-best fantasy kicker in the NFL this year, and this week he's facing the Bucs who are giving up the 2nd-most fantasy points to kickers. Whether or not you're into numerology is irrelevant. Gonzalez should put up some solid numbers.
Sit 'em Kyle Allen (CAR, QB)With Cam Newton on IR, it's Kyle Allen's show now. As great as that might sound, temper your expectations this week against the Packers who are giving up the 8th-fewest fantasy points to the position this year...and even fewer at home at Lambeau.
Sit 'em Baker Mayfield (CLE, QB)Look, Baker Mayfield will be a good quarterback...some day. It's not going to happen this week when he faces Buffalo's 4th-best fantasy defense. The Bills secondary has been top-notch and their front line knows how to get through. This is the same defense that limited Tom Brady to 150 yards and 1 interception back in Week 4.
Sit 'em Matthew Stafford (DET, QB)The numbers seem to suggest that the Bears and their venerable defense can be run on, but quarterbacks and receivers have struggled. Chicago is giving up just 16.2 fantasy points on average (7th-fewest) and have kept several QBs like Derek Carr and Kirk Cousins in single digits.
Sit 'em Kenyan Drake (ARI, RB)What a way to start his time with the Cardinals last week! Don't expect a repeat performance though. The Bucs have been very solid against the run giving up the second-fewest fantasy points. In fact, the only guys who have put up decent points are McCaffrey, Kamara, and Gurley...and Drake is not in that class.
Sit 'em Joe Mixon (CIN, RB)Joe Mixon is ranked 25th this week putting him into flex territory, but even that might be a stretch. The Ravens have been fairly solid against the run this year keeping guys like Chris Carson and David Johnson in single digits. When Mixon played them in Week 6, he disappointed fantasy owners with just 5.9 points.
Sit 'em Todd Gurley (LAR, RB)It's hard to believe that even though Gurley is ranked 17th this week that he's going to be able to finish anywhere near that. His knee is obviously still a problem and the Rams have been careful with his touches. The Steelers have given up the 3rd-fewest fantasy points to RBs this year. Plus Malcolm Brown is "trending in the right direction" according to HC Sean McVay, so it's hard to guess what Gurley's workload might look like.
Sit 'em A.J. Green (CIN, WR)It looks like A.J. Green could make his season debut against the Ravens, and as much as we're ready to plug him into our lineups, this week would be a gamble. We don't know what kind of volume to project for him and he's not even guaranteed to play yet. There are too many question marks to consider him a startable option this week.
Sit 'em DK Metcalf (SEA, WR)The NFL's leading rookie receiver this year has been a bright spot for fantasy owners. Unfortunately, his light should dim a bit this week against the Niners and their 8th-ranked fantasy defense. Since Week 3, they've largely kept opposing receivers within single digits.
Sit 'em Tyrell Williams (OAK, WR)Williams has caught exactly 3 passes in 4 straight, averaging just 5 targets per game over that stretch. So he's become a TD-dependent fantasy play. Williams figures to see a bunch of Chargers CB Casey Hayward on Thursday night.
Sit 'em Evan Engram (NYG, TE)Although he's not officially out for Week 10, we'd be shocked if Evan Engram were to suit up. He's been diagnosed with a "mid-foot" sprain again and was seen this week in a walking boot. If he can't go, look for Rhett Ellison to jump to the top of the depth chart.
Sit 'em Jimmy Graham (GB, TE)It's so difficult to project when Jimmy Graham is going to have a decent day. He has combined for just 37 yards over the last two weeks and the Panthers have largely kept opposing TEs in check.
Sit 'em Cleveland Browns (CLE, DEF)The Browns looked so good on paper this preseason, but that just hasn't translated into fantasy points this season. The Bills have been doing very well as of late and Josh Allen could present some difficulty for them this week.
Sit 'em Jason Myers (SEA, K)Jason Myers has been a decent fantasy kicker this year on a Seattle offense that is clearly humming. He's likely to struggle on Monday night though as the Niners give up the 2nd-fewest fantasy points to kickers this year.

1) Pick up Gesicki, Jonnu, OJ, Rudolph, Seattle TE or Graham as temp replacement for Kittle (if needed)? (Leaning toward Gesicki...)
2) ROS: Pickup Royce Freeman, Breida or Latavius and drop Ronald Jones?

For me, it's a toss up between Gesicki and Smith. I'd probably lean towards Gesicki coming off a big 6-95 game.
Of those RB's, I kind of like Breida slightly more than Freeman. Latavius' value is so dependent upon Kamara's health.

I'd play OJ Howard. He's playing the Cardinals and they are terrible

I'm not sitting OBJ - just can't do it. I get the frustration, but I hope they'll feed him the ball this week.
For me, it is Samuels over Williams this week.

Toss up now that Williams has the backfield. I'd probably still play Samuels but couldn't fault you for playing Williams. Good luck!
