NFL Hot Takes for 2021 NFL Season

Tuesday, Aug 10, 2021 at 2:00 pm ET

After seeing Tom Brady win his 7th championship casually breezing by the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LV, the NFL will experience something it never has. A 17 game schedule is coming this season and the thrill in the air has never been higher. An extra game means an extra week of Fantasy Football which means anxiety on who to start at your flex and chaos with trades in reality and fantasy. This NFL season will be one to remember and the winner will have earned it, really and truly. It's time for NFL hot takes. Let's see how it goes.

NFL fantasy hot takes

Austin EkelerThe best time of the year is among us. Fantasy football brings people together for the better. Win some money or be humiliated for finishing in the last place. I have a few NFL hot takes when it refers to Fantasy Football but one will suffice for now. Austin Ekeler will finish as a top 7 running back.

The Chargers improving the offensive line with rookie Rashawn Slater and Justin Herbert gave us a glimpse of what is yet to come this season and beyond. Austin Ekeler is a PPR monster. Ekeler appeared in eight full games with Herbert and had 63 targets.

Ekeler will likely see over 100 targets this year and that is key when it comes to having a running back. If they are not touchdown mammoths, then having someone like Ekeler alleviate that with the catches.

Trades within the NFL

Let's get bold with these NFL hot takes, trade edition. The Miami Dolphins need a running back.

Melvin GordonMyles Gaskins is great at what he does, but he is not an every-down back. Having him behind a running back that can handle, maybe 18-20 carries a game to relieve the young Tua Tagovailoa.

I am thinking about Melvin Gordon from the Denver Broncos. With the Broncos selecting Javonte Williams in this year's draft, it's clear to me that they are looking towards the future. With Melvin Gordon, he is a vet who can come in and immediately help in Miami.

Having the offense running smoothly with Tua's play-action AND the running game will be key in accomplishing one of my later NFL hot takes. A Melvin Gordon and Myles Gaskins combo can make noise with the switch of pace with the two backs.

Breakout player this season

Ezekiel ElliottThere are always going to be a few players that explode for a career year. It is hard to tell because sometimes it really comes from left field. I have two players and they are on the same team. Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliot will come back to form after a rough year for both.

Dak will win CPOY and Zeke will re-emerge as a top-five running back. The weapons on the Cowboys and Dak being great will have him eclipse 5,000 passing yards. Dak will throw for over 35 touchdowns as well. Ezekiel Elliot will benefit tremendously with still having a superb offensive line and the attention being on Dak, Amari Cooper, Ceedee Lamb, and Michael Gallup.

Zeke will rush for over 1,100 yards with over 10 rushing touchdowns. I think Zeke will also have a career-high in receptions with 60 and four receiving touchdowns.

An NFL division surprise

All in all, we can all agree that the Patriots' days reigning over the AFC East are over. The Buffalo Bills and the Miami Dolphins are the clear-cut two best teams in this division.

The Bills have Josh Allen and a top-five receiver in Stefon Diggs. The Dolphins have an elite defense backed by secondary beasts Byron Jones and Xavier Howard.

The Dolphins have lost the last five meetings vs the Bills. With that being said, I would still not be surprised to see the Bills win the division.

Although I like as my NFL hot take for the Dolphins to give the Bills a run for their money, the AFC East will be decided on the last matchup with the Bills and Dolphins. Tua is getting his struggles out in camp and I believe Brian Flores knows what he is doing with his team. A storm is brewing in Miami.

Dak's shoulder injury is starting to appear worse than expected. Time will tell what type of season he can put together. If he isn't throwing prior to week 1, he becomes a buyer beware in my book.
